This fall, the New York State Education Department’s (NYSED) Privacy Office will begin monitoring educational agencies’ websites for compliance with Education Law 2- d and the Family Educational Rights Privacy Act (FERPA).

• What to include in your Parent’s Bill of Rights (PBOR)
• Information as to how parents or eligible students can file a privacy-related complaint
• The supplemental information to the PBOR for any contract or other written agreement with a third-party contractor that will receive personally identifiable information (PII)
• Your school’s data security and privacy policy and how to align it with the National Institute of Standards & Technology (NIST) Cybersecurity Framework (CSF)

We will also discuss other must-haves in your data privacy toolkit to ensure compliance with the law and build trust with your school community, as well as provide information on where to access resources and support.
